President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said Nigerians must “be tolerant of one another” to avoid another civil war.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Buhari said this in Kigali, Rwanda, where he is attending the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
He had visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial where an estimated 491,000–800,000 died in 1994.
On the other hand, the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War, July 6, 1967 – January 13, 1970, was a political conflict caused by the attempted secession of the southeastern provinces of Nigeria as the self-proclaimed Republic of Biafra.
During the two and half years of the war, there were about 100,000 overall military casualties, while between 500,000 and 2 million ‘Biafran’ civilians died of starvation.
“I visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial this afternoon. I took two lessons from this sobering tour: One, Nigerians must continue to be tolerant of one another, and two, we have a responsibility to preserve our own history from the Nigeria Civil War.
“As I wrote in the Visitors Book, “we pray that humanity will never experience this kind of hatred, wickedness and violence toward others because of their ethnic background, religion, and beliefs.”

Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo is engaged
Nigerian gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo has announced her engagement to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa of the Waterbrook Church.
She and her fiance disclosed on their separate Instagram pages on Thursday.
Sharing pictures from their engagement, shoot, Mercy wrote “I am blessed to be blessed with @theofficialblessed. The thoughts of doing the next phase and the rest phase of my life with you makes the blessing more real. I love you Sweet.
Echoing the same sweet words, Pastor Blessed expressed how excited he is about starting a new phase with his love.
He wrote “I’m the man the Lord showed Mercy. @mercychinwo thanks for saying YES! I LOVE YOU DEARLY!”.

Police deny arrest of suspected Owo terror attackers
The Ondo Police Command said it was not aware of claims by Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps that some persons suspected to be involved in the June 5 terror attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo have been arrested.
It said it was not involved in the arrest of any suspect even though it works in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.
Spokesman for Ondo Police SP Fumilayo Odunlami said report of the arrest of suspects in connection to the Owo attack did not emanate from the police.
“That report did not come from us. We are not aware of any arrest,” she stressed.
